Get Ready For Class

Click the drop-down menus below to find information, videos, and how-to guides for all the things you need to set yourself up for a successful first day.

Your first day might look different for different courses. For example, a traditional, face-to-face class will meet in an IVC classroom on campus at a set time, but an online, asynchronous course will not. Here's a quick list. Remember that you can click the buttons below for more information about these topics.

  • Online courses meet on Canvas, but they do not have set meeting times. Instead, it's important to log in to Canvas on the first day to find your course and get started.
  • Face-to-face courses will meet in a classroom at IVC at a scheduled time. Attendance is important. Students who do not attend the first class meeting in person will be dropped from the course.
  • Real-Time Online courses meet on Zoom. You will need a link to the meeting. Often, you can find this link in an email from your instructor or in Canvas.

For more information about where to go, how to log in, or what your courses might be like, use the buttons below.

IVC shares a lot of information online, so it's important that you know where to go and how to log-in to find it.

  • Webstar is our registration site, where you can check your schedule and add or drop classes.
  • Canvas is where you'll find your online courses and other helpful resources (like this page)

Both Webstar and Canvas are accessible through our PortalGuard login page. Watch the video below to learn more about how to get logged in and set for success!

Your IVC student email is important! This is where you'll receive information from your instructors, official information from IVC about courses and registration, and information from financial aid about your eligibility and awards. You don't want to miss it! Logging in to your IVC student email is something that should be done regularly. Watch the video below to learn more about logging in to your IVC student email.
