In the fall of 2026, the Imperial Valley Community College District Board of Trustees launched a nationwide search for the college's next Superintendent/President, following the departure of Dr. Lennor M. Johnson, who was appointed Superintendent/President of MiraCosta College in August 2026. The search marks an important new chapter for Imperial Valley College as it seeks a visionary leader to build upon the institution's legacy of academic excellence, student success and community partnership.
During his tenure, Dr. Johnson guided Imperial Valley College through a period of significant growth, innovation and national recognition, including earning the prestigious 2023 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. His leadership helped strengthen educational pathways, expand student support services and advance workforce development opportunities throughout Imperial County.
"IVC's strength lies in its people and its mission. Our talented faculty, classified professionals, administrators, and shared governance leaders remain deeply committed to student success, and we have every confidence that the college will continue building upon its momentum and achievements," said Erik Ortega, President of the Imperial Valley Community College District Board of Trustees, in announcing the leadership transition.
The Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. James M. Limbaugh to serve as Interim Superintendent/President, providing continuity and institutional stability throughout the transition. In partnership with Academic Search, the District is conducting a comprehensive national search to identify a collaborative, student-centered leader who will advance the college's mission, strengthen community partnerships and guide Imperial Valley College into its next era of excellence.
