Canvas & Online Tools

Click the drop-down menus below to find information, videos, and how-to guides for all the things you need to set yourself up for a successful online learning experience.

Canvas is your online classroom. It's a website where all of your online courses live. You can click on the title of each course to "enter" the classroom and find your homework, lectures, reading, grades, and information from your instructor. IVC offers a variety of online learning tools, like Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Canvas, Studio, and more. Each tool has a separate function, or purpose. Click the button below for more information on how to use these tools.

  • Canvas is your online classroom, which you learned about above.
  • Microsoft Office includes many online tools like Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and more. 
  • Honorlock is a tool used in some online classes to proctor exams and create a fair test environment and protect academic integrity.
  • Turnitin is a plagiarism detection software that scans papers for plagiarized, or copied, content.
  • Zoom is a videoconferencing platform used to have classes or meetings with each other.

IVC's Online Tools

Microsoft Office is where you'll find apps and software like Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Everything is available to IVC Students for free. Sometimes, instructors will ask students to use these apps to create assignments for their classes or communicate with them.

  • Outlook is where you'll find your IVC Student Email, including important information about your courses and financial aid.
  • Word creates and formats documents.
  • PowerPoint creates slideshows or presentations
  • Excel creates spreadsheets, tables, charts, and graphs and performs calculations and formulas.
