What is EOPS/CARE?

What Can EOPS/CARE Do For Me?

The Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) at Imperial Valley College is a state-funded program designed to support students who face economic, educational, linguistic, or social barriers. Our mission is to expand access to higher education and ensure students have the tools they need to enroll, stay enrolled, and successfully complete their college journey.

Through personalized, wraparound support, EOPS empowers students to overcome obstacles and reach their academic and career goals.

At IVC, more than 1,500 students benefit from EOPS each year. The program offers a wide range of services, including priority registration (Group 1), book and supply grants, one-on-one academic, personal, and career counseling, tutoring, transportation assistance (bus passes and parking permits), food support (grocery cards), cap and gown assistance for graduation, school supplies (such as scantrons and blue books), access to workshops and orientations, college tours, cultural and student success events, and referrals to on-campus and community resources. Every service is designed to help students stay on track, feel supported, and thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Within EOPS are two additional support paths for eligible students:

  • CARE (Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education) provides enhanced services for EOPS students who are single parents receiving TANF/Cash Aid. CARE helps student-parents balance academic and family responsibilities with financial assistance, personalized counseling, technology support, and specialized workshops.
  • NextUp (also known as Guardian Scholars) supports EOPS students who are current or former foster youth and emancipated youth. This program offers mentorship, expanded financial support, academic guidance, emergency housing referrals, technology assistance, and other tailored services to help students thrive in college and beyond.
