Embedded Tutor Program

The Embedded Tutoring Program (ETP) focuses on providing supplemental academic assistance for students both inside and outside the classroom to increase student performance and retention.  

An embedded tutor assigned to a class is there to: 

  • assist students during class time,
  • provide review sessions outside of class time,
  • clarify and encourage successful study habits for the whole class, and
  • maintain constant communication with the instructor regarding class content.
  • Immediate access to learning support services right before/after class.  Students who otherwise would not feel comfortable seeking a tutor on their own are now able to attend review sessions and receive the academic assistance they need. 
  • Students develop trust with embedded tutors through day-to-day interactions and feel comfortable when surrounded by other students asking for help. 
  • Increased access to learning services and other resources offered by the college. 
  • Increased number of success and retention rates. 

 

Interested in becoming an embedded tutor?  

Come visit the Learning Services Department at the back of the library and ask them about their job opportunities! We offer flexible schedules and a great fun, learning environment. 

Requirements:  

  • 3.0 GPA overall 
  • A or B in class wanting to tutor 
  • Must be enrolled in 9+ units 
  • Associate's degree or higher (professional tutors only) 
When viewing the class schedule, you can view it next to the course CRN if it has been assigned an embedded tutor. You will view it as a green button like this:  
Embedded Tutor

Currently, embedded tutors are assigned to general education courses and those with historically lower success and retention rates. 

While we would love to provide a tutor for every course offered, our primary focus is ensuring students receive support in the areas where it is needed most. To assist with other courses, we also offer appointment-based and drop-in tutoring services, available to help you succeed in any class you may find challenging.
