About the Area:
Imperial County is located in the beautiful desert area of Southern California.  The county stretches out to 4,600 square miles free from urban pollution, noise and congestion. With a population of over 140,000, the Imperial County has thousands of acres of prime farmland that have transformed the desert into one of the most productive farming regions in the world.  The county offers an affordable, family way of life with the best opportunities in southern California for home ownership, including low-cost utility rates.  The mild sunny and dry winter temperatures attract thousands of visitors from around the world each year.  It presents a variety of recreational opportunities from the cool waters of the Colorado River, to the unique wonder of the Salton Sea and its wildlife, to the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, the largest mass of sand dunes in California and a popular filming location for the motion picture industry.  The coastal community of San Diego, with all its urban attractions, is an easy hour and half drive.  Only minutes away is Mexicali, the capital of Baja California Norte, which is a metropolitan city with over one million residents.

In addition there are eight high schools and 43 elementary and middle schools located in the county.
