Imperial Valley College students are settling into brand-new, affordable student housing
following the grand opening of Calexico Commons, a housing community developed in
partnership with SDSU Imperial Valley.
Located on the SDSU Imperial Valley campus, the modern complex offers a convenient, supportive environment situated just a short five-minute walk from two Calexico-to-IVC Express bus stops.
According to Elizabeth Sanchez, director of housing, IVC has already reached its initial room capacity at the new development, with 38 IVC students currently residing at Calexico Commons as of Aug. 24.
Sanchez noted that while IVC’s allotted beds are currently full, interested students are still encouraged to apply. A waitlist has been established to connect eligible IVC students with any spaces that become available.
Housing is open to current IVC and SDSU Imperial Valley students enrolled in an average of 12 degree-applicable units per semester. To support accessibility, priority consideration is given to low-income students receiving financial aid such as Pell Grants, Cal Grants, California Community College Promise Grants, or AB 540 support.
However, all eligible IVC students are welcome to apply.
The student housing agreement spans an 11.5-month term running from move-in on Aug. 13, 2026, through move-out on July 29, 2027. Total rates for the full term are set at $7,820 for double occupancy ($680/month) and $9,780 for single occupancy ($850/month).
Roommate matching and administrative support are managed through the SDSU Office of Housing Administration, which pairs students based on campus, age group, and self-identified gender.
