State of the College Address to Highlight Progress and Launch Groundbreaking for Regional
Public Safety Training Center

Community leaders, campus stakeholders and regional public safety partners will gather
at Imperial Valley College on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, for the annual State of the
College Address, followed by a ceremonial groundbreaking marking the next phase of
campus development and regional workforce training initiatives.
The event will take place from 2:30 p.m. in Building 3200, Room 3201, bringing together
college leadership and community partners to hear updates on the institution’s progress,
priorities and ongoing efforts to strengthen educational opportunities throughout
the Imperial Valley.
Remarks will be delivered by Imperial Community College District Board President Erik
Ortega, IVC Superintendent/President Dr. Lennor Johnson, Academic Senate President
Ric Epps, and Associated Students Government President Elaine M. Valdez, along with
updates from members of the President’s Cabinet, including the college’s vice presidents
for Academic Services, Administrative Services, Student Services and Equity, and Human
Resources.
The State of the College Address provides an opportunity to share institutional updates
and highlight the college’s continued work supporting students, strengthening community
partnerships and advancing workforce preparation across the region.
Immediately following the address, guests will be invited to gather for light refreshments
and brief remarks outside Buildings 3200 before walking together to the nearby site
for a ceremonial groundbreaking presentation recognizing the start of construction
for the Public Safety Regional Training Center and a new Maintenance and Operations
Warehouse.
“On March 25, we are marking the start of two projects that expand how Imperial Valley
College partners with local law enforcement and public safety agencies to train the
next generation of professionals right here in the Imperial Valley,” said Dr. Lennor
Johnson, Superintendent/President at Imperial Valley College.
Both projects are funded through the Measure B bond approved by local voters in 2022,
which supports improvements to Imperial Valley College facilities and expands educational
infrastructure designed to serve students and the broader community.
The Public Safety Regional Training Center will include a 35,000-square-foot training
center and a 5,000-square-foot fire engine and storage facility constructed on the
northwest portion of campus. The facility will support first responder training with
specialized spaces such as classrooms, laboratories and training areas designed for
emergency response and public safety education.
The Maintenance and Operations Warehouse will house maintenance, operations and receiving
services currently located in the 1800 Building, helping improve the efficiency of
campus support services and shipping and receiving operations.
The event is open to the public, and local law enforcement and public safety personnel
are especially encouraged to attend as the college continues expanding opportunities
for collaboration and workforce preparation.
