LGBTQIA+ Designee

Diversity at IVC

We work to Recognize and value the strengths of our varied backgrounds and perspectives in an environment that respects diverse traditions, heritages, and experiences.

The LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersexual, asexual, +) Designee position has been created for Imperial Valley College following the authorization under the California Education Code (Section 66271.2).

This individual is to serve "as a point of contact for the needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender faculty, staff and students at the respective campus". To fully implement the responsibilities of this position, the following actions will be done:

  • Gather and verify reports of incidents of bullying, harassment, or intimidation based on a person's real or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity
  • Work with other departments (including but not limited to Human Resources and the President/Superintendent's office) to develop and provide training to reduce incidents, and to improve the level of understanding of the needs and concerns of the LGBTQ community on campus
  • Serve as the Imperial Valley College contact person to the outside community and media and, if requested, provide programs on the IVC environment and designee position
  • Maintain contact information on the IVC web site and student portal, and provide a variety of means to report incidents

The Designee is here to serve the students, faculty, and staff of Imperial Valley College. The primary goal is to provide a safer and more inclusive learning and working environment for everyone at Imperial Valley College.
