ABOUT ASSOCIATED STUDENTS GOVERNMENT

The student Activities/Governance Program is an essential and fundamental part of the college's educational mission. As the center of college community life, it serves as a laboratory of citizenship, training students in social responsibility and for leadership in our democracy. Through its various committees and staff, it provides a cultural, social and recreational program aiming to make free-time activity a cooperative factor with study in education.

In all its processes it encourages self-directed activity, giving maximum opportunity for self-realization and for growth in individual social competency and group effectiveness. Its goal is the development of the total person as well as stimulating the intellect. Student Activities/Governance Program serves as a unifying force in the life of the college, cultivating enduring regard for and loyalty of the college.

WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE IVC ASG PRESIDENT
Dear fellow students!

Andy Flores

Hello everybody! It’s a pleasure having you for the 2026-2027 academic year as well as your onboarding here at Imperial Valley College!

It’s my privilege to say that I will be serving as your Associated Students Government President as well as the Student Trustee for this term. I, along with my ASG senators, offer a hearty greeting to all students, faculty, and staff. Whether you are new or returning, this is a step into a new journey for us to experience and to learn from. For us at ASG, our goal is simple and direct: To cultivate a campus environment where every individual feels seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.

This year, we are committed to fostering a community grounded in unity, equity, and adaptability. We will strengthen unity by building meaningful partnerships among students, faculty, and staff; promote equity by upholding the professionalism expected of every IVC student; and embrace adaptability by actively listening to student voices and responding to their evolving needs. Many of the challenges you face at IVC may not just be academic, but also personal, and that can be staggering to your life. IVC is a place where your problems are heard, and they are met with compassion and support.

Here at ASG, we recognize that every student has a unique perspective and has ideas that are to be shared for the benefit of the campus. Your background, history, proposals, and ambition could all be of benefit to IVC. Thanks to previous student ideas and actions, IVC has integrated positive change to the campus. The student voice is what makes our college constantly transform for the better. We inspire you to share your creativity and imagination as your eagerness for implementation can be carried out through advocacy and dedication.

For this academic school year, I implore you to get familiarized with student connectivity and development. There are many opportunities, such as joining clubs and programs, attending events and workshops, and contributing your voice to student forums. By being involved in such, you can figure out more things about yourself and step out of your comfort zone. One decision can change the course of your life, so get out there and shape it to your benefit.

My duty and commitment to the student body as your student trustee is this: To listen to the issues in question, to advocate for necessary positive changes, and to connect and walk alongside you to help guide you. Student Government leaders and I will uphold these principles, and fight for the betterment and success of this campus.

This year, there will be a lot to experience, so let’s make it memorable. From all the friends we make, opportunities fulfilled, and achievements, to the progress made for your career goals. Let’s strive for success!

Remember to be active and push your hardest to do and be your best. Remember that you have a special purpose to fulfill. Here’s to a special year full of improvement and beautiful memories! So, shall we begin?

Andy Flores, Associated Students Government President and Student Trustee, 2026-27
