Next Steps

Navigate your enrollment in eleven straightforward steps, from setting up your logins to securing your seat in class.

You Applied. Here's What Happens Next

Eleven steps sit between your application and your first day of class — from activating your student account to registering and paying fees. Work through them in order; most build on the one before it.

The order below matches how Admissions & Records structures the process for new applicants.

1

Add Emergency Contact Information

Help us keep your information up to date. Provide an emergency contact who we can reach if needed.

2

Check Your Email & Activate Your Account

Within about an hour of applying, IVC emails your new Student ID. Use it to activate your student email and portal logins — you'll need this ID for everything that follows.

3

Complete New-Student Orientation

Orientation is online and covers academic pathways, campus resources, and how registration works. Completing your new-student orientation is also an important step toward qualifying for priority registration, which may allow you to register for classes earlier.

4

Meet With a Counselor

A counselor helps place you into the right starting courses and begins building your education plan based on your goals — transfer, degree, or certificate.

Visit Counseling

5

Finalize Your Education Plan

Your counselor helps you complete either an abbreviated or a comprehensive education plan, mapping out the courses you'll take toward your goal.

6

Apply for Financial Aid

Submit the FAFSA or, for eligible students, the California Dream Act Application. Do this as early as possible — awarding takes time to process.

7

Register for Classes

WebSTAR shows your assigned registration date and time — priority groups (DSP&S, EOPS, veterans, athletes, and students who finished orientation) register earliest.

8

Pay Your Fees

Pay enrollment fees through WebSTAR or in person at the Business Office. Unpaid balances can result in classes being dropped, so don't leave this for later.

9

Get Your Textbooks

Order course materials through the campus bookstore once your schedule is set, so they arrive before classes begin.

10

Attend Your Class

stay enrolled

Show up on day one and keep attending — instructors can drop no-shows, and missing the start of a class can cost you your seat.

11

Additional Resources

Get ready for campus life by locating your classes on the campus map, applying for your student ID card, and securing your parking permit.

Registration windows, add/drop deadlines, and financial aid priority dates are published per semester rather than year-round. Look up the current ones at Important Dates and Deadlines and your specific registration slot at Priority Registration Times for Current and Future Semesters.
