The California College Promise Grant (CCPG) is a program from the state that helps California students pay for college if they meet certain income limits.
To apply for the CCPG, fill out the FAFSA if you are a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen. If you are not a citizen but meet AB540 residency rules, you should fill out the California Dream Act Application instead.
Imperial Valley College will check your application to see if you qualify and will automatically give the grant to students who are eligible and have signed up for classes.
Go to WebSTAR to see if you got the CCPG.
To get the CCPG, you must be a California resident, meet AB540 rules, or qualify for a military exception as decided by the Financial Aid office.
Watch our video on the CCPG to learn more.
The CCPG pays for the $46 per unit enrollment fee, but it does not cover the Student
Health Fee, Student Representation Fee, or parking fees. You might still get the CCPG
even if you don’t qualify for regular financial aid. Before signing up for classes,
log into WebSTAR and click the Financial Aid tab to see if your CCPG has been approved.
To keep getting the CCPG, students must meet basic academic rules.
If a student is on academic and/or progress probation for two semesters in a row, they won’t get the CCPG for the next semester.
To stay eligible, students need to:
Once all grades are posted, students will get an email if they are being placed on Academic (GPA) probation and/or Progress probation. The email will also say if the student will lose their CCPG, lose priority registration, or both.

Method A:
You can get CCPG under Method A if you or your parent(s) are receiving public help
like TANF/CalWORKS, SSI/SSP, or General Assistance. You must show proof from the last
60 days that you are getting this help. Ask the Financial Aid Office if you need more
information.
Method B:
You can qualify under Method B if you and/or your parent(s) have a low income.
It depends on how much money your household made two years ago and the size of your
family. You must fill out the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application (for AB540 students without Social Security numbers) and turn in all required forms
to the Financial Aid Office. The 2025-2026 Income Standards provides a breakdown of what income level is needed to qualify based on the size
of your family.
Method C:
If you don’t qualify for Method A or B, you might still get CCPG under Method C.
To do this, you need to show that you have financial need by filling out the FAFSA
or California Dream Act Application and submitting all required forms. Imperial Valley
College will check your application. If you are enrolled and have at least $1,104
in financial need, you may receive the grant.
Special Cases:
You can also get CCPG if:
