How to Read Your Award Letter

Total Expenses: This is our standard Cost of Attendance based on the housing plans you reported on your FAFSA. These costs are estimates only that are required in order for financial aid to be awarded and not the actual costs that a student will spend. Only mandatory fees* are owed to IVC and registration fees will be waived for students who qualify for the California College Promise Grant (formerly BOG Fee Waiver).

*Fees are based on the average enrollment of all fulltime students (14.0 units per term) at the $46 per unit enrollment fees and $239 per unit out-of-state tuition, plus Health Services and Student Representation Fees. Fees, books/supplies and transportation are adjusted for 3/4 time enrollment based on 10 units, for 1/2 time enrollment based on 7 units and less than 1/2 time based on 4 units. Less than 1/2 time COA is limited to fees, books/supplies, transportation and a limited allowance for room and board.

Family Contribution: This is the amount of money a family is expected to contribute each year to a student's educational costs. This figure is calculated by the Department of Education using Federal Methodology Need Analysis and is based on the income and asset information you reported on your FAFSA.

Awards are listed by term and are based on full-time enrollment at Imperial Valley College. If you are not enrolled full-time, your payment will be adjusted based on your actual enrollment status. Although one amount is listed for each semester, Pell Grant funds are divided into three payments during the semester. Visit the Financial Aid Disbursement webpage for information regarding disbursement dates. The California College Promise Grant is a fee waiver and is not listed on your award letter.  It is counted as a resource and will be posted to your account when you register for courses.
