Police Academy Entrance Requirements

IMPERIAL VALLEY COLLEGE ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
In order to enter the Police Academy, you must first apply and register with Imperial Valley College (if you have not already).  Below is a quick link to the IVC registration website:

POLICE ACADEMY ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
After you are registered as a student with Imperial Valley College, you must fill out the online Police Academy Application when available prior to the start of the module, and submit all documents.  You will also need the following:

  • Peace officers must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Minimum age of 18 for admission; Minimum age of 21 to be hired with a department 
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid California Class C (class 3) driver's license (a copy will need to be attached to the online application)
  • Proof of Auto Insurance (a copy will need to be attached to the online application)
  • No felonies or misdemeanors
  • Request for Live Scan Services Form. You will fill out and take with you to the livescan operator of your choice (see a list of available location options here).  You will then get a Clearance Letter mailed to you from the Department of Justice that will need to be uploaded to the online application. 
  • Cleared Medical Examination Form (will need to be attached to the online application)

 

PC 832 (AJ 141) ARREST & FIREARMS ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

If you would like to see if a law enforcement career is for you, or if you need a refresher, then the entry-level (P.O.S.T.) Peace Officer Standards & Training PC 832, Arrest & Control (AJ 141), Course in winter 2023 is for you.

Completion of this course will provide you with a certificate from the state of California.  The class will meet 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Thursdays - Sundays from January 5, 2023 - January 21, 2023. 

Please note that applicants can not have any felony convictions and must pass a background screening.
