The Reading Lab is an integral part of IVC's reading program and is required for all reading students.  It is intended to help students develop their reading skills by providing:

  • an online reading program to supplement classroom instruction.
  • a phonics program to identify and correct mispronunciation of English sounds.
  • a one-unit Individualized Reading Skills Lab to supplement a reading class or help students maintain their reading skills if a class is not available (offered based on student demand).
  • small group reading "pods" conducted by reading faculty to clarify for students principles discussed in reading classes (offered depending on funding).
  • tutor assistance.

Writing Lab

The Writing Lab is supplemental to IVC's writing program and is intended to help students develop their writing skills by providing:

  • appointments with writing tutors to review writing assignments and suggest improvements
  • a focus on helping students develop their writing skills (not a correction service).
  • a one-unit Individualized Writing Skills Lab to supplement a writing class or help students maintain their writing skills if a class is not available.
  • small group writing "pods" conducted by writing faculty to enhance individual progress in writing (offered depending on funding).
  • workshops on various aspects of writing, conducted by writing faculty and/or writing tutors.

Language Lab

The Language Lab is part of IVC's ESL and language programs and is intended to help students in language acquisition by providing:

  • language software programs that ESL and language instructors may incorporate as part of class requirements.
  • an online reading program that is part of class requirements for ESL reading classes.
  • a one-unit lab that is supplemental to certain ESL classes and which each instructor conducts with the class as a whole in the lab.
  • tutor assistance with the software programs, online reading program, and one-unit lab.
