The IVC Student Health Center is working diligently in ensuring students and the campus community have a safe learning environment amid this COVID-19 pandemic. I am pleased to announce we have a COVID-19 Support Team providing services to students. Therefore, I take this opportunity to introduce our COVID-19 Support Team members: Angelica Garcia, Melissa Chavez, Naila Vazques, and Jazmin Espinoza. It is extremely important that you help us to keep the campus community safe by using your IVC Safe App for contact tracing purposes. This includes:

  • Mandatory pre-screening and check-ins on campus when entering buildings with QR codes.
  • Daily campus pass (green or blue) to enter campus and classes.
  • Uploading your test results for contact tracing purposes and to receive case management support.
  • Easy upload of your COVID-19 vaccination card.

COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic will be held on Wednesday November 3, 2021 (1:00-4:00 p.m.) in room #804.

Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines (1st, 2nd, and boosters as approved).

IVC Employees:

How to assist when a student is COVID-19 Positive?

Direct the student to upload their positive test results on the IVC Safe App under "Report Test Results."
Fill out the following form https://forms.imperial.edu/view.php?id=776465 to inform the COVID-19 Support team (See attached flyer).

How do I know if a student if clear to return to campus after completing quarantine?

Students are cleared by the Student Health Center COVID-19 Support Team and Professionals.
Students can show you the "Blue or Green" day pass, which helps as proof of clearance.

What happens if students do not have a phone or smartphone?

Students can complete their COVID-19 pre-screening on paper form and receive a "Campus Pass" on paper at the IVC Screening Station at all campus entrances.

Dear IVC Students:

The fall 2021 semester is off to a solid start, and hopefully, everyone enjoyed the first ten days of the semester. It is so nice to see faculty, staff, and students on campus. I must admit the beginning of a semester and graduation are perhaps the best days of my life. In the beginning, I get to see young, ambitious, and often nervous students, and at graduation, I get to see thriving leaders who are ready to take on the world!

Yesterday, we had our back-to-school bash, and it was simply amazing! Great food, live entertainment in Lucha Libre, and motivated students excited for the new academic year! Also, over 180 students and community members got a COVID-19 vaccination shot at the event. Incredible! Thank you all for keeping Imperial County Safe! Great job Associated Student Government (ASG), for coordinating and sponsoring the event, and thank you all who have contributed or participated in this wonderful event. A special shout-out goes to the Student Health Center, Student Affairs, Pioneers Memorial Hospital, and Trustee Solis, and all the organizations that came out to welcome our students!

The past 18 months have been very challenging for all, and we continue to deal with the ever-changing environment. We are hopeful that the pandemic will end soon, but unfortunately, COVID-19 will be with us for some time. With the return of all faculty and staff to campus on September 7, we want to ensure everyone is fully informed and provide a safe environment, which facilitates a safe return. As your newly appointed Interim Superintendent President, I wanted to take the time to provide you with our most current data and updated COVID-19 protocols. All of the protocols identified in this email follow the latest California Department of Public Health (CDPH), California Occupational Health and Safety (Cal-OSHA), and the Local Imperial County Public Health Department.

 

COVID-19 Data for Employees:

# of employee COVID-19 positive cases to date: 75

# of employee current cases: 00 (last recovered case was July 27, 2021)

# of current employees fully vaccinated: 485 (72.0%) "This is a huge accomplishment. You are keeping us safe. I hope we can get to 90% or better within the next month. Let's do it IVC!"

 

Return to Campus timeline: The College will be fully open for all services as of September 7. All faculty and staff are expected to return to campus on September 7 unless otherwise directed, have an approved accommodation to work from home, are under quarantine, or have an excused absence. If the local mandates change things, we will immediately communicate this to the college community and make adjustments as necessary. The modality of instruction for fall 2021 will not change unless it becomes necessary to move face-to-face classes online due to an unexpected outbreak. On Fridays, some departments may have limited staff onsite; however, all departments will assist students who come on campus.

Face Mask Requirements: Under the current county mandate, face coverings are required for all employees and students indoors, with some exceptions noted below. Masks are not required outdoors or during outdoor activities where there are 10,000 or fewer people, or if there is a major outbreak on the campus of 20 cases or more.

 

Exceptions to wearing a mask:

  1. Approved accommodation for health or mental reasons.
  2. For safety reasons.
  3. For a disability such as the hearing impaired.

 

Temporary exceptions to wearing a mask:

  1. Working alone in an office.
  2. While eating and drinking.
  3. Specific tasks that cannot feasibly be performed with a face covering. This exception is limited to the time in which such tasks are actually being performed. An example would be while demonstrating a welding task in a lab.

Any employee or student who desires to wear a face-covering will not be harassed, coerced, or humiliated for doing so.

Social Distancing Requirements: All social distancing requirements have been lifted. In the event of an outbreak or if an employee/student has been exposed, social distancing requirements will apply. It is recommended to practice social distancing still when possible.

Screening and Contact Tracing: Starting September 7, we will restart entrance pre-screening for all persons who come on campus. Employees and students will be required to use the "Ready Education" application for pre-screening to gain access to the campus. Employees and students are also encouraged to utilize the contact tracing function on the application.

HR will notify any employee, and the Student Health Center (Lupita Castro x-6310 This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) will notify any student who has been exposed to COVID-19. Employees and students shall inform HR or Student Health Center respectively if they experience symptoms or are tested positive for COVID-19. If an employee or student is fully vaccinated, they may upload this into the Ready Education application and use the vaccination pass to gain access to the campus. Contact tracing is made possible by scanning QR codes located on buildings you are accessing using your Ready Education application. 2. Complete the Pre-Screen form before you come on campus to obtain your daily Health Pass

Testing and Quarantine:

Vaccinated employees and students are not required to test or quarantine if exposed to COVID-19 unless they show symptoms. If a vaccinated person is exposed, they should monitor for symptoms for up to 14 days after the exposure, but they are not required to quarantine unless they start showing symptoms. Please refer to the attached flowchart for additional information and steps concerning exposure, testing positive, and/or showing symptoms. Anyone who experiences symptoms must be tested and quarantine. Testing for employees with district insurance will be covered by the insurance. Testing for all other employees and students will be covered by the District.

Unvaccinated employees and students are required to quarantine if exposed to COVID-19. If an unvaccinated person is showing symptoms, they must get tested. If an unvaccinated person is not showing symptoms, they are not required to be tested, but it is encouraged.

For an easy reference, please refer to the attached decision tree to determine the proper protocol if exposed. Exposed means you have been in close contact (within 6 ft.) with an unmasked person who has exhibited symptoms or is COVID-19 positive, and the close contact was for 15 minutes or longer in duration.

Vaccination: The District is not mandating the COVID-19 vaccination at this time; however, we strongly encourage everyone to get vaccination unless they have a medical reason why they cannot. The District is offering incentives to both employees and students to get the vaccination. The District will cover the cost of the COVID-19 vaccination of an employee or student. The District is also working with healthcare providers to make weekly or bi-weekly vaccination and testing available onsite.

COVID-19 Prevention: The College has procured personal protective equipment (masks, respirators, face shields, gloves) for anyone who needs them. The college is installing or has installed automatic soap dispensers, towel dispensers, water stations, plexi-glass barriers, and other equipment for the purpose of reducing the spread of the virus. Any employee or student, who has a specific request, please see your immediate supervisor or faculty respectively to make your request.

The safety of employees and students is our number one priority. Should the conditions of the pandemic or requirements change, the District will send out an update as soon as possible. Thank you for everything you do and for getting us through this pandemic together.

The Chief Human Resources Officer has overall authority and responsibility for implementing the provisions of this CPP in our workplace. In addition, all administrators are responsible for implementing and maintaining the CPP in their assigned work areas and for ensuring employees receive answers to questions about the program in a language they understand. All employees are responsible for using safe work practices, following all directives, policies and procedures, and assisting in maintaining a safe work environment.

Imperial Valley College is now open remotely after returning from Spring Break. Normal business hours have resumed remotely, meaning, all offices are available either via telephone or through Zoom.

April 10, 2020

Imperial Valley College will be closed for Spring Recess April 13th - 18th. Normal business hours will resume remotely on Monday, April 20th, 2020. The County of Imperial and Imperial County Public Health Department recently released a Health Officer Order that requires the use of face coverings in public spaces or risk being fined. April 3, 2020

Imperial Valley College will return to a modified Level 2 closure effective April 7, 2020. After careful consideration, Imperial Valley College Leadership determined to continue to offer instruction online for the remainder of Spring 2020 and Summer 2020. This decision is made in alignment with the recommendations from the federal government, state government and the California Community College Chancellor's Office. In addition, the Imperial County Health Officer issued an "Amended Stay at Home ORder" on April 1, 2020, which will remain in effect until further notice. The panel provided an overview of student services available to students remotely as well as academic questions or concerns. The panel consisted of Vikki Carr of A&R, Norma Nava of DSP&S, Dr. Covarrubias of Counseling, Lupita Castro of Student Health Center, Dr. Tafoya of Instruction, Lisa Seals of Financial Aid and Josue Verduzco of Tutoring.

 I hope you are well. I am grateful to all of you for remaining calm and being patient. Please know that I understand that you have concerns about the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). IVC leadership shares those concerns and considers the health and safety of our entire campus community a top priority. We are preparing now in case a full or partial campus closure is necessary. While we want to be prepared in the event of the need for campus closure, it is important to emphasize that as of today, there have been no positive cases of Coronavirus at Imperial Valley College. Imperial Valley College has developed a preliminary emergency action plan in connection with the Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). As of right now, the campus is open and offering instruction and services. The Emergency Action Plan stipulates that the campus will close up to three weeks and transition to offer most instruction online should a student, faculty or staff be confirmed with COVID-19. The college is communicating with the campus community and following the Center for Disease Control and Prevention health guidelines on practicing good hygiene throughout the campus.
