Instrumental Jazz Ensemble

- Syllabus -
A. Course Content: A performance organization specializing in literature for string, woodwind, brass, and percussion ensembles, or any combination thereof. Designed fore musicians who wish to explore, rehearse, and perform literature of all styles and periods. (This semester’s emphasis is on the instrumental jazz ensemble.)
B. Required Materials:
1. Musical materials will be supplied by the instructor.
2. Instrumentalists must have their own instrument (keyboards avail.)
C. Attendance Policy: Regular class attendance is expected and recorded. Poor attendance will lower student’s grade. No other class sessions are required other than occasional performances.
D. Policy on Homework & Quizzes: There are no written assignments however, vocal and instrumental performance requires several hours of practice outside of class. Two hours of independent work outside of class per each hour of lecture is strongly suggested
E. Grading Policy: 50%= Class Rehearsal Activities

30%= Live Performances (approx. 3)
a. Punctuality
b. Set Up and Tear Down Participation
c. Concert Attire
d. Preparedness
e. Stage Presence and Performance
20%= Final May Concert (Final)
