- Syllabus -
A. Course Content: A course designed to present basic skills and theory of music for persons interested in a background for, appreciation of, or further studies in music. Skills to be learned and developed are sight-singing, ear-training, keyboard harmony and rudimentary piano skills.
B. Required Materials:
1. For Sight-Singing:
(8A-Vol. 1 & 2, 8B-Vol. 3& 4, 8C-Vol. 5 & 6, 8D-Vol. 7 & 8)
2. And: Pruess, Christmas In Song
3. For Dictation: Manuscript paper, a pencil and an eraser.
C. Attendance Policy: Regular class attendance is expected and recorded. Poor attendance will lower student’s grade. No other class sessions are required other than the three weekly meetings.
D. Computer Assignments: In the MIDI/Keyboard Lab, computer ear-training activities on Practica Musica will be assigned weekly (approx. 2 hours a week).
E. Policy on Homework & Quizzes: There are no written assignments other than the final project. However, in order to develop the sight-singing and dictation skills necessary, the student will need to have a routine of regular practice outside of class. No makeup quizzes will be given unless a prior agreement is made with the instructor.
F. Grading Policy: 30% =Sight-singing Quizzes
30%= Dictation Quizzes
20%= Computer Activities
20%= Final Exam
