Music 260, 262 Intermediate Guitar Class I & II

 -Syllabus -

 

A. Course Content: A continuation of the beginning course where students will learn how to play and apply advanced and bar chords, read single-note melodies in all twelve major keys including playing in upper positions, execute (and improvise with) movable scales, and create melodic harmonizations via chord and melodic fusion. A performance ensemble will be formed for public performances during the semester.

 

B. Required Materials:

          1. Schmid, Will: Contemporary Class Guitar, Book 1 – FOR REVIEW

          2. Notebook for keeping various handouts

          3. A decent “playable” guitar (classical, acoustic or electric w/amp)

          4. Music and learning materials will be supplied by the instructor

 

C. Attendance Policy: Regular class attendance is expected and recorded.  Leaving class early during lab period will constitute an absence.  Poor attendance will lower student’s grade.  No other class sessions are required other than the three weekly meetings.

 

D. Policy on Homework & Quizzes: There are no written assignments however, guitar performance requires several hours of practice outside of class. Two hours of independent work outside of class per each hour of lecture is strongly suggested.  No makeup quizzes will be given unless a prior agreement is made with the instructor.

 

E. Grading Policy:        50% =average of all performance quizzes

                                      10%= public performances

                                      20%= Final Exam

                                      20%= Guitar Recital Concert

                                      (December Date: TBA - Attendance is mandatory)
