Music 160, 162 Ð Beginning Guitar Class I & II

 -Syllabus -

 

A. Course Content:

          Beginners: A basic course on how to accompany with the guitar.  Stress will be placed on tuning, chording, different types of strums and reading music in 1st position.

         

 

B. Required Materials:

          1.Schmid, Will; Contemporary Class Guitar; Book 1

          2.Notebook for keeping various handouts

          3.A decent ÒplayableÓ guitar (classical, acoustic or electric w/amp)

 

C. Attendance Policy: Regular class attendance is expected and recorded.  Leaving class early during lab period will constitute an absence.  Poor attendance will lower studentÕs grade.  No other class sessions are required other than the four weekly meetings.

 

D. Policy on Homework & Quizzes: There are no written assignments; however, guitar performance requires 2 to 3 hours of practice in and out of class. Six performance quizzes will be given during the semester. Makeup quizzes will not be given unless a prior agreement is made with the instructor.

 

E. Grading Policy:        50% =performance quizzes (10% each)

                                      10%= Class Participation (attendance)

                                      20%= Mid-Term Exam (written)

                                      20%= Performance Final (performance)
