Computer Requirements  (Either IBM-type or Macintosh-type computers will work):    

  1. A computer with a CD-Rom drive, a sound card (for listening to the musical examples on the CDs), a modem (or ethernet card where applicable), and at least 4 MB of free disk space.
  2. Internet access through an account provided either through the college or through an independent ISP (internet service provider).  Internet access must also allow for sending and receiving email.  (Free internet email services such as yahoo.mail, netscape.net, hotmail, etc., may be utilized.)
  3. A browser (recommended: Internet Explorer 5.0 or Netscape 4.0 or higher).
  4. The most recent version of QuickTime or Windows Media Player (for viewing videos).  These video players are usually installed on new computers; however, they are also available free for downloading from Apple.com (QuickTime) and Softseek.com (Windows Media Player)
  5. The most recent version of RealPlayer (RealPlayer G2 or RealPlayer 7) for processing the musical sound files contained on the CDs.  (RealPlayer is also available for free downloading from Real.com.)

 Attendance:  There will be three required meetings for the semester: orientation, the midterm, and the final.  These tests will be done in class in a supervised setting.  Distance education students for whom distance makes it impossible to test at Imperial valley College, will have a test proctoring site arranged by the instructor at a college or university (or other suitable site with a reciprocal proctoring arrangement with Imperial Valley College) located near them.  The test dates will be published prior to registration and will be published in the Imperial Valley College course offering bulletin for the semester(s) that this course is offered as well as in the on-line Course Preamble.

 Semester grades will be based on a strict percentage of possible points:

90% -100% = A              

                80% -  89% = B

                70% -  79% = C

                60% -  69% = D

                  0% -  59% = F 

 Note: The amount and quality of participation in the class’ On-Line Discussion Forum may also be taken into consideration in determining the final grade
