Course Description: The historical development of music with a study of various types of music from stylistic periods as a medium of cultural development. Intended as a background toward further studies in music for the music major and persons interested in a thorough background for enjoying music,
Grading: There will be a test every chapter. The one (1) lowest chapter quiz will be dropped. The tests are worth 100 pojnts each (1,000 points total after the one lowest is dropped) or 50% of the semester grade. The semester final exam will cover highlights of the semester and is worth 500 points or 25% of the semester grade. Students will also be required to submit a 5-10 page (of text, excluding title page, endnotes, and bibliography) research paper on a composer or musical topic covered in the course. This will be worth 500 points (250 points on content, and 250 points on form, i.e., correct English usage, etc.) or 25% of the semester grade.
