Whimbrel - (Numenius phaeopus)

Whimbrel photo copyright by James E. Kuhn Smaller in body size than the similar Long-Billed Curlew, the Whimbrel also has a relatively shorter down-curved bill.

Both of these birds like the same Imperial Valley habitat of irrigated farm fields.

The Whimbrel also sports a striped head.
