Western Grebe - (Aechmophorus occidentalis)

Western Grebe photo copyright by James E. Kuhn The Western Grebe can be found wintering in the Imperial Valley in freshwater lakes and at the Salton Sea.

Similar in habits, coloration, and size to the Clark's Grebe - it has a slightly longer neck with a black skullcap that reaches the upper eye area. Clark's Grebes' eyes are completely surrounded by white.
