Wood Stork - (Mycteria americana)

Wood Stork photo copyright by James E. Kuhn Rarely seen in other parts of the Western United States; a small colony of these large birds can be found at the Salton Sea during the hot summer months of the Imperial Valley.

Many fish are unable to survive the hotter months at the sea and make easy meals for these birds.

Temperatures can reach over 115 degrees fahrenheit here... Do your birding during the cooler morning hours and take plenty of water!
