Sharp-Shinned Hawk - (Accipiter striatus)

Sharp-shinned Hawk photo copyright by James E. Kuhn This small hawk is a solitary migrant that attacks songbirds.

Its "jay-size" smallness and squared-off tail helps distinguish this Imperial Valley raptor from the larger Cooper's Hawk.

A fall, winter and spring visitor.
