This long-billed shorebird feeds while flying
by skimming on the water's surface. Notice the much longer lower bill.
Uncommon elsewhere in the Imperial Valley, they can be seen at the Salton Sea during the warmer Spring and Summer months. I have also seen lone individuals feeding at
Fig Lagoon, a freshwater
lake near Seeley.
