Osprey - (Pandion haliaetus)

Osprey photo copyright by James E. Kuhn The "fish hawk" visits the Imperial Valley during the cooler months.

I have seen them at the Salton Sea, at local freshwater lakes, along the New River, and even on telephone poles near canals close to towns.

Watching them hovering over the water and then diving to grab a fish makes my day!
