Greater White-Fronted Goose - (Anser albifrons)

Greater White-fronted Goose photo from US Fish & Wildlife Service under public domain
[NO LOCAL IMAGE YET]
Large flocks winter in California's Central Valley, but here in the Imperial Valley I have seen them only in small groups or as solitary individuals.

I have seen them locally at a freshwater lake, at the Salton Sea, and in a flooded farm field.

Can sometimes be confused with the "blue" variant of the white Snow Goose. Look for a gray body with a white face and pinkish bill.

If you are interested in learning more about this bird online - I recommend you start with the Patuxent Bird Identification InfoCenter, Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, Laurel, MD. http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/Infocenter/infocenter.html

They present photographs, songs, identification tips, maps, and life history information for North American birds - including the Greater White-Fronted Goose
