Also known as the Green Heron, it is more solitary
than the larger Black-Crowned Night Heron.
Unlike most Herons, this one is not as vocal when disturbed. It prefers to try and slip away quietly behind your back like the similar but smaller Least Bittern. Resident in small Imperial Valley freshwater
ponds, marshes and canals.
