American Coot - (Fulica americana)

American Coot photo copyright by James E. Kuhn A year-round common sight on Imperial Valley rural and urban waterways and ponds.

Also known as a "mudhen" and not as shy as the similar Moorhen.

Many people consider it to be a pest that's hard to get rid of - I think they're just smarter than most people.
