Barn Owl - (Tyto alba)

Barn Owl photo copyright by James E. Kuhn Active mainly at night, you may see this "ghost" in your headlights while driving - but you are more likely to see dead ones in the road after being hit by cars or trucks.

A true farmers' friend because of their diet, which includes rodents and other pests, their nests can be found in haystacks as well as rural buildings.

If you awake before dawn, you may see them in the early light flying home to their roost.
