Paramedic Program

Opportunity
Emergency Medical Services Training offers a Paramedic Course through Imperial Valley College. Both Certificate and Associate degree program are offered.

The course for the Certificate Program consists of a total of 41.5 units, 1,413 hours divided as follows:
 

BIOL-090	Anatomy and Physiology for Health Occupations	3 units	54 hours
EMTP-200	Didactic1	9 units	198 hours
EMTP-210	Didactic 2	9 units	198 hours
EMTP-215	Didactic 3	5 units	126 hours
EMTP-225	Clinical	3.5 units	189 hours
EMTP-235	Field 1	6.5 units	351 hours
EMTP-245	Field 2	5.5 units	297 hours

The course for the Associate Degree Program consists of a total of 47.5 units, 1,521 hours divided as follows:
 

The course is designed for the EMT I or EMT II who wishes to have upward career mobility in EMS.

This program is offered in two semesters, beginning in the Fall.

Didactic 200 and 210 are scheduled from August to December, four days per week, Tuesday through Friday. Additional class assignments are made during the course.

Didactic 215 is schedule during winter session (Jan-Feb).

Clinical 225 is scheduled in 12- hour shifts.

Field 235 and 245 are scheduled in 24-hour shifts.

Paramedic Interns will receive clinical experience in a hospital setting and will receive field experience on a Paramedic Advanced Life Support Ambulance in Imperial County.

 Prerequisites  
 

1.	BIOL 090 Anatomy and Physiology for Hea     (3 UNITS)
2.	Complete application packet (found below)
3.	Current CPR certification (American Heart Assoc.)
4.	Current EMT I or EMT II certification
5.	Minimum 1 year's experience as EMT I or II
6.	High school diploma or GED
7.	Completion of IVC's EMT I Proficiency exam
8.	Reading placement test
9.	Math placement test
10	EMT Transcripts
11.	Acceptance into program by EMS Training Director/Coordinator and Medical Director
