Emergency Medical Technician

 

 

The Opportunities

An EMT-1 OS (Optional Scope) (7.5 units) course is available at Imperial Valley College with 171 total hours. Included in the training is hospital and ambulance experience. This course is designed for individuals who will come in contact with victims of illness and injury in an emergency situation.

This course would be of valuable assistance to all emergency service personnel who work with ambulance services, fire rescue units, law enforcement, and hospital emergency departments.

The Program:

Topics considered will include all aspects of basic life support.

Students will be taught to evaluate diagnostic signs and determine extent of injuries. Procedures for dealing with life threatening emergencies are presented

This course is approved by the Imperial County EMS Agency.

Two classes are offered, 2 days per week & you have your choice of enrolling in a day class or a night class.

The Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be eligible to:

1. Receive a BLS American Heart Association CPR card.

2. Receive a certificate of EMT-1 OS course completion from IVC.

3. Be eligible to take the EMT-1 OS certification exam. Certification is
    accepted throughout California.

4. Receive certification with Automatic External Defibrillation and Combitube.

5. Receive Hazmat training al the First Responder Awareness Level through
    CSTI.

 

Please Note:

The California EMS Authority requires that students completing an EMT course take the National Registry EMT exam to be eligible to be certified as an EMT in this state. Upon course completion the student will have to apply to take the National Registry Exam given here at Imperial Valley College or any other National Registry Recognized testing institution. The National Registry EMT Exam is not given as part of this course. Taking this course does not allow you to practice  as a certified EMT you must pass the National Registry Exam to become certified.
