PUBLIC/PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS
Since 1975, Imperial Valley College has been involved in a public/private partnership that has allowed the college to offer performance ensemble classes that it might not otherwise be able to provide. Starting in 1975, the Imperial Valley Symphony Association, Inc. has partnered with IVC to offer the Imperial Valley Symphony as a class at IVC. The college provides an instructor's salary, rehearsal space, the use of its equipment, the printing of programs and fliers, and the availability of college credit for students, while the Imperial Valley Symphony provides funding for the annual concert season of the orchestra: soloists' fees, import musicians' fees, music purchase and rental, purchase of additional equipment for use by all the music ensembles at IVC, hall rental, and publicity (currently totaling more than $20,000 per year for all of the above). Recently, public/private partnerships have also been created between the college and the Imperial Valley Choral Society (Imperial Valley Master Chorale and IVC Chamber Singers), the Valley Jazz, and the Imperial Valley Community Band.
