Jaramillo, winner of the 2006 IVSA
Young Artist Competition, started playing clarinet with Mr. Lawrence Viau in
band in the Brawley Elementary School District, moved to El Centro where he
continued in the Wilson Junior High School Band under Mr. Mitch Sturman. He continued at Central Union High School
Band under Ms. Renée Baker. He has
performed in the Wind Ensemble all four years, and learned the saxophone in
order to perform in the Jazz Band, in which he has played since his sophomore
year. He has performed in the Honor
Bands for the past six years, in the Solo and Ensemble Festival twice, the
SCSBOA Festivals for four years,, gone to the Coronado Jazz Festival with the
Jazz Band three times, participated in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s “Essentially
Ellington” Competition for three years.
He has played with the Valley Jazz under Jimmie Cannon since last
year. During that time he has also
learned oboe, bassoon, flute, trombone, and other clarinets and saxophones,
making him a very versatile musician indeed.
