On April 18, 2012 the Board of Trustees announced that Dr. Victor Jaime would be the next Superintendent/President of Imperial Valley College, pending negotiations.
Serving about 11,800 students last year, Imperial Valley College is comprised of one main campus (160 acres) in the midst of rich agricultural land, and an extended campus. The main campus consists of over 30 buildings situated on a beautifully landscaped corner, adjacent to major highways for ease of commute. The Imperial Valley College student population consists of 86% Hispanic students; 63% of total students are female. The average age of IVC students is 27 years, and more than 50% of the students work full or part time while attending IVC.
ABOUT THE AREA
Imperial County is located in the beautiful desert area of Southern California. The county stretches out to 4,600 square miles free from urban pollution, noise and congestion. With a population of over 140,000, the Imperial County has thousands of acres of prime farmland that have transformed the desert into one of the most productive farming regions in the world. THe county offers an affordable, family way of life with the best opportunities in southern California for home ownership, including low-cost utility rates. The mild, sunny and dry temperatures attract thousands of winter visitors from around the world each year. It presents a variety of recreational apportunities from the cool waters of the Colorado River, to the unique wonder of the Salton Sea and its wildlife, to the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, the largest mass of sand dunes in California and a popular filming location for the motion picture industry. The coastal community of San Diego, with all its urban attractions, is an easy hour and half drive. Only minutes away is Mexicali, the capital of Baja California Norte, which is a metropolitan city with over one million residents.
Imperial County is home to the El Centro Regional Medical Center and Piopneers Memorial Healthcare District, two full-service medical facilities. In addition to the eight high schools and 43 elementary and middle schools located in the county.
