Andrew Dawhaun Robinson (known as Coach Drew), 33, is entering his 6th year at Imperial Valley College and his first year as Head Coach of IVC womens basketball program. For the previous 5 years, Coach Drew was the head assistant for the IVC mens basketball program under the teaching of Coach Tyson Aye. During his tenure he was a contributing factor to the 2008 Pacific Coast Conference Champions. A California native, Coach Drew attended high school at Lincoln Academy in San Diego, CA. Graduating near the top of his class, he continued his education at Fresno State earning a B.S. degree in Health Science, followed by a Masters Degree in the field of Public Health. Coach Drew is a devout Christian with involvement in several organizations such as: Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Board member for the Youth Action Board, Imperial Valley College Christian Club, and the Fresno State Alumni Association. Coach Drew tributes his character and strong sense of family to his mother; Janet Penn and his grandmother Rosemary Penn. He has several other supportive family members including four brothers and four sisters. Coach Drew began his coaching career at age 19 in San Diego, CA as a summer league basketball coach at Lincoln High School where he coached under Shaun Manning and Ken Garner. He continued in the coaching realm at Roosevelt High School in Fresno, CA in '03-'04 as a varsity assistant under coach Marlon Hall who is currently the president of Lassen College. From '04-'08 he had the pleasure of coaching at Buchanan High School where he followed his mentor and friend Jack Fertig. At Buchanan Coach Drew coached in many capacities including: varsity assistant, freshman head coach and summer league head coach. He has attended several basketball camps as an invited coach. A few of these are: Michael Jordan Flight School, Lebron James Kings Academy, University of Santa Clara, University of San Diego and Hartnell College. He was also the director of Imperial Valley College Summer Basketball Camps from '07-'11. He has helped several student athletes continue their education and basketball careers at various levels including: Junior College to NCAA Division I, II, and III. Coach Drew feels his contribution to the sport as a coach is to help student athletes grow and to help guide them in a direction to become successful in life.
