Yes, my "local" bird page includes the Ostrich! They are grown commercially for their leather, flesh and feathers. Agriculture is a major industry in the Imperial Valley - and the many farms and ranches include a variety of domesticated birds.

Chickens, doves, ducks, geese, Guinea fowl, ostrich, peafowl, pheasants, pigeons, turkeys, and quail are all raised here.

Many of these birds are displayed locally by FFA, 4H and other organizations during the California Mid-Winter Fair which is held in late February and early March each year at the fair grounds in Imperial.

OTHER OUTSIDE LINKS FOR THIS BIRD:

Poultry Links - Barry Koffler provides a terrific links page for for various types of poultry and other exotic fowl such as ostriches. Be sure to take a look at his "Feather Site" for even more info, images and links.
