Crested Caracara - (Caracara cheriway)

[NO LOCAL IMAGE YET] This endangered bird, most likely a stray from Baja California or Arizona, wandered into the Imperial Valley a few years ago and was documented by a local birder.

Since then I have been looking for it, especially when I see vultures, because the caracara is also a carrion eater and is known to tag along with vultures.

If you are interested in learning more about this bird online - I recommend you start with the Patuxent Bird Identification InfoCenter, Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, Laurel, MD. http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/Infocenter/infocenter.html

They present photographs, songs, identification tips, maps, and life history information for North American birds - including the Crested Caracara
