To apply for LVN, students must be a U.S. high school graduate or have completed the GED, be 18 years of age or older, in good health and able to lift minimum 35lb or more, and have met the prerequisite course work. Foreign high school transcripts or diplomas are not accepted unless they have been evaluated by a professional credentials service.
Completion of the courses below with a minimum 2.0 GPA or C grade meets eligibility to apply for LVN. Completion of Co-requisite PSY 204, Developmental Psychology (Lifespan) is highly recommended prior to applying.
ENG 110 – Reading and Composition
PSY 101 – General Psychology
BIOL 090 – Anatomy & Physiology for Health Occupations
AHP 100 – Medical Terminology
Students may apply with the prerequisite courses in progress, however, students who have completed the courses will be considered first if more applications are received than slots available.
All students who submit an application are notified of the status of their application 30 to 60 days after the deadline period, by email. Students not selected for the program will need to re-apply if they wish to be considered again. Meeting the admission criteria does not guarantee admission to the program.
If selected for admission, students will be required to submit a copy of the CPR card for Healthcare Providers and complete a background check and drug screen. A basic physical exam and immunizations will also be required (PPD Skin Test, MMR, T-dap, Influenza, Varicella, and Hepatitis B). Information is provided to the student after being selected.
After completion of the LVN Program, graduates have two (2) options for applying to the generic RN Program - 1) Associate Degree Track I or 2) 30-Unit Track II. Both options require completion of admission criteria for RN prior to applying; in addition, a current CA LVN license, IV Certification, BLS Card, and letter verifying LVN experience is also required. More information is available on the LVN to RN website.
